The start of Emunah

Emunah started over 90 years ago in 1933, who wished to provide practical help for children escaping Nazi persecution.

Recognising the vital needs of vulnerable children, a group of remarkable women decided that actions must speak louder than words.

They showed their support for children whose lives had been devastated by the Holocaust in the most practical way, by raising money and providing the basics clothes, food, love and a safe place to live – with a dedication and passion that allowed them to achieve great things.

The Hebrew word Emunah means faithfulness, fidelity, loyalty, not walking away even when the going gets tough, trusting the other and honouring the other’s trust in us. That is what Emunah provides, each and every day, for thousands of disadvantaged children and families across Israel

Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks z’l

In the following decades, more incredible women and men, have supported the cause and have responded to the changing needs of the Jewish State. Whenever Israel has faced war, terror attacks, waves of mass immigration and all manner of social welfare issues, British Emunah has been there to provide much needed support for disadvantaged children and families.

How it became a worldwide organisation

Emunah, one of Israel’s leading social action organisations, has developed over the decades, confronting the very different issues faced by the 10,000 at-risk and vulnerable children and families in our care. Our services today focus on education, social welfare, and societal change through legislation, aiming to strengthen the Jewish family. Advancing the status of women and encouraging volunteerism and chesed.

Emunah Israel has over 130 projects in Israel and British Emunah supports and fundraises for 26 of those projects.
